Interprofessional Communication and Practice Gap
Problem Description
Pain is a symptom that affects individuals’ quality of life. For cancer patients, untreated pain makes their condition more complicated. This project focuses on non-pharmacological interventions such as supportive psychotherapy to help manage pain (Chapman et al., 2020). Evidence-based practices require healthcare professionals to identify more effective alternatives that make cancer patients comfortable. Specifically, the project compared supportive psychotherapy with pharmacological approaches to ascertain the efficacy of the former in improving patients’ quality of life. The proposed timeline for this project is three months.
Facilitating Discussions and Interactions
A successful project depends on the ability to recruit competent project sponsors and team. For this project, the sponsors included the nursing manager in charge of critical care and the Chief Nursing Officer. The group consists of the project manager, nurse administrator, theater nurse, and the nurse manager with adequate knowledge of pain management for cancer patients. The recruitment involved conversations with meetings with the sponsor and members of the team to inform them about the need for collaborative efforts in addressing the problem. The steps for securing the proposed site and preceptor entailed identifying one of the reputable facilities and a potential employer in the future.
