In the first paragraph of this section, describe how your background and ability to apply a sociological perspective would be a valuable addition to the team.
Question one:
We learn a lot from those closest to us; they act as the primary socializing agents as we grow to adulthood. I value my family members. I grew up in a family of six. My parents and my peers shaped my worldview and beliefs. Most of the time, we would have conflicts but end up solving these issues through the teachings we obtained from our elders. Another key learning area is when one starts school and interacts with children from different cultural backgrounds. I studied in a public school that had students from various cultures. The student population comprised Hispanic, African Americans, whites, and Chinese. According to Phillips et al. (2023), one should learn about their culture to understand others from different cultures. The core value that one knows as one grows with their siblings and while interacting with people from different ethnic backgrounds is that one should learn to respect the opinions and ideas of others without discrimination. I learned from an early age how to respect others and listen. According to my father, ‘listening is more important than speaking,’ and it is due to such teachings that I thrive in group work. I believe that family greatly influences our personalities and individual qualities; thus, the values I learned from childhood help us to listen, speak when necessary, and respect other people’s opinions.
In the second paragraph of this section, discuss an example of a time when you intentionally looked at diverse perspectives to make an ethical and appropriate decision.
Question two:
While working as an intern at the local Walmart store, I faced an ethical dilemma. I had just finished my undergraduate and needed something to keep me busy. I heard of the opening at the Walmart store and viewed it as an opportunity to gain some experience in stocking and tallying inventories. At this time, I was not financially stable and struggling to get by, let alone have transportation to reach the store. One day at the store, I stabled upon an additional shipment of accidentally overstocked goods. At one point, I thought, ‘this was an opportunity’ to make quick cash. At one point, I desperately needed the money to get by, and on the other hand, I decided to make an ethical decision to report the excess package.
